Perhaps more than anyone in America, Dan has reviewed and discussed the unique retirement hopes and dreams of Americans from all walks of life. This insight, coupled with his 20+ years of professional experience working in the financial services and healthcare industries gives him a unique perspective on what individuals are seeking and what potentially stands in their way of achieving fulfillment in the new era of retirement.



Dan is president of Retirement Spark!, a research and consulting company he founded to help ignite the retirement initiative of large institutions, their distribution partners and individuals. His pioneering efforts have guided leading companies on the creation of new retirement-related product ideas, coached professional advisors on how to effectively engage clients in the retirement planning process and motivated individuals to take appropriate steps to secure a positive future for themselves and their loved ones.

Dan is also frequently a featured expert in the media on the topics of aging and retirement. His insights have appeared in various consumer and trade publications such as The New York Times, BusinessWeek, SmartMoney, Financial Planning and Research Magazine.



Dan also serves as senior advisor to the Age Wave organization run by Ken Dychtwald, Ph.D. At Age Wave, Dan co-led the “Future of Retirement,” a thought leadership study sponsored by HSBC Bank. The study was conducted in 20 countries, with 20,000 respondents, resulting in the most far-reaching and seminal global insights about retirement ever uncovered.



Prior to joining Age Wave, Dan served on the Board of Directors and was Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning at Bankers Life and Casualty Company, a firm focused on meeting the financial security needs of retirees.



Dan began his career at McKinsey & Company, where for nearly ten years he advised clients in the U.S., Mexico and throughout Europe in the financial services and healthcare industries. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and his M.B.A. from INSEAD, the international business school in Fontainebleau, France. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay area with his wife and two daughters.
