Bernstein are veteran journalists and editors who between them have worked at U.S. News & World Report, Time, Newsweek, and Fortune Swan is coauthor, with Mark Stevens, of de Kooning: An American Master, which was chosen as one of the ten best books of 2005 by The New York Times Book Review, and which won a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Critics Circle Award.
