Let\'s Talk EI: Dr. Adewale Troutman

The president of the American Public Health Association, Dr. Adewale Troutman has devoted his 40 years of work to health equity within active communities, leading him to found the first Center for Health Equity. Like anyone, minorities face general health issues, but with added impact of gentrification, they find themselves living outside of areas where health care is readily accessible.

Dr. Adewale Troutman

Adewale Troutman is the director of public health leadership and practice at the University of South Florida, and currently teaches at the University of Louisville School of Public Health and the Morehouse School of Medicine. He has more than 40 years experience in public health practice, policy development, and direct patient care. Prior to joining the staff at USF, he served as director of the Department of Public Health and Wellness in Louisville, Kentucky. He also holds leadership roles on many national advisory boards and committees, including the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the health equity and social justice committee of the National Association of City and County Health Officers (NACCHO). He holds an MD from New Jersey Medical School, an MPH from Columbia University, and a master’s in black studies from the State University of New York at Albany.
