Bad Gas

There’s a new blend of gasoline rolling out across the US. And one motorist group says it poses a risk to millions of vehicles. Then, countless Americans are looking for jobs. We’ll talk to an expert who says finding employment takes careful planning.

InfoTrak: A Warning Before You Fill Up E15, a new blend of gasoline that contains 50% more ethanol than current fuels, is gradually being introduced at gas stations across the US. Robert Darbelnet, President and CEO of AAA says his company believes that the Environmental Protection Agency and gasoline retailers should halt the rollout because of E15’s potential to damage millions of vehicles and void car warranties. He noted that a handful of 2012-13 vehicles are the only ones that can use the fuel so far, although EPA stickers affixed to gas station pumps say E15 is safe for use in virtually all vehicles 2001 and newer. He said the sale of E15 should be stopped until there is more-extensive testing, better pump labels to safeguard consumers and more consumer education about potential hazards.
