Anger | How to Calm and Stand Up to a Dragon
Anger is a complex emotion and not one that many of us are taught how to handle. Some of us bury it which can lead to depression. Others bully which leads to loneliness due to lost relationships. Some rage, others quietly and lethally seethe.

Charlie and I like to equate anger to a dragon that lives within each of us. Some of us let it sleep until it gets poked one too many times and then it brings chaos to anyone around it. Others walk around with it on their shoulder snarling at everyone.

An untrained dragon creates chaos and fear. No hope, progress, dreams or loving relationships can flourish if you dragon is out there kicking and screaming.

But there's a different way. A trained dragon is a strong ally. It sticks up for us, it fights against injustice, it makes things happen.

On this encore episode, we discuss the different forms that anger takes, how to express anger and how to start taming your own dragon. You'll also learn strategies for handling the fire when someone turns their angry dragon on you. Hint: water beats fire every time!

Developing Our Ability to Listen
"In conversation, do you listen or wait to talk?" Mia Wallace to Vincent Vega ~Pulp Fiction

Our country is in a full-blown crisis right now. What's become clear is that as a nation made up of individuals, we haven't been listening.

Not to our partners Not to our kids Not to our bodies Not to our intuition And we certainly not to those with opposing viewpoints

Issues start with a whisper and get louder until we finally take notice.

In this episode, Charlie and I speak frankly about what we're experiencing and discuss the importance of developing our ability to listen.

Let peace begin with each of us!

Navigating Your Way To Better Habits
The need for change can happen in an instant. One day you wake-up, either literally or emotionally, and tell yourself "Enough! I need to do something about this!" And in the next breath you think, "How did this happen? How the hell did I get here?"

You might then pull yourself together and launch into a flurry of activity. But if you're like most of us, before you know it you're back to doing things the same way. The reason? Change is a slow and steady process that either moves you in a good direction or a bad one.

So what can you do? During today's discussion we'll provide practical tips for staying on course even in the midst of a pandemic.

Wake Up and Break the Cycle!
The world has completely shifted yet we're hanging on to our old beliefs, just sure that everything will go back to normal... Soon.

Even though you know change is inevitable, the old way of looking at things just doesn't seem to fit anymore. So how do you motivate when all you want to do is sleep, eat and wait until it's all over?

Change doesn't have to be painful or even hard, you just need some new ways at looking at things.

Join us and as we discuss how to break out of old cycles.

Liar, Liar
Most of us think we're fairly sophisticated and could easily spot a liar. But if that was the case, why are so many of us surprised when we find out the truth.

How could Bernie Madoff get away with running a Ponzi scheme? Why aren't spies immediately detected? Why are we blindsided when confronted with a significant other's infidelity or addiction?

The partial answer lies in the research of Timothy R. Levine a professor that has studied deception for more than 25 years. His conclusion is that humans are hardwired to default to truth.

On this episode we'll discuss:

Truth-bias and why the normal means of detecting a liar have been found to be inaccurate at best and dangerous at worst.
Why defaulting to truth is actually good for society.
How to look inward and see how we lie to ourselves which leads to lying to others
And how to start on a path to finding your own truth!

READY SET GO!
If everything went back to normal tomorrow would you be ready?

I've asked myself that same question and in some areas of my life I would have to say "no."

So how can we utilize this time to it's fullest?

How can we start re-energizing ourselves and reducing our stress?

Listen as Charlie and I discuss easy to follow tips and strategies to get you back on track if you've veered off a bit.

In this episode we discuss:

The importance of routine and how to establish one
Why and how to take better care of yourself
    What to work on now
    And much more!
You'll be ready to get back in the race!

Empathize? But What About Me?
Every one of us needs to feel heard and understood. Empathy, the ability to feel what another person is feeling, is the key. Whether it's a crisis in our lives or a celebration, empathy allows us to feel connected with others.

On this episode Charlie and I discuss empathy, what it is and what it isn't and we provide examples.

Listen and see what you think. Working the empathy muscle (which we all need to do) will not only bring you closer to family and friends but it will also enhance your career and work environment!

We Need To Hear From Everyone!
It's hard enough getting noticed at work without a pandemic. But now with so many people losing their jobs or working from home, being seen and heard is essential!

There's a problem though. Researches at BYU have recently found that although women have a seat at the table, they aren't being heard. "They are systemically seen as less authoritative. And their influence is systemically lower. And they're speaking less." These are the women that have no trouble speaking up, have killer credentials and experience. So what happens to those women and men that tend to hang back?

This is a problem! How can it be 2020 and we're still not treating our co-workers equally? Even in friendly work environments where people love the teams they're on.

Listen as Charlie and I discuss this problem. We discuss what current research shows and what you can do to ensure everyone has an equal voice!

Because we need to hear from everyone now more than ever!!

Navigating Change | Tag, You're The Leader!
"The first act of creation is the destruction of the status quo. When everything falls apart, don't stop dreaming. Dream bigger." ~Martha Beck

During this unprecedented time, there is one major certainty, we are in midst of big change.

A change that no one has navigated before.

Uncertainty hangs in the air as we grieve for our old way of life. Going through Kubler Ross' 5 stages of grief feels overwhelming: denial, anger, depression, bargaining and finally, acceptance.

Typically we look to someone experienced to lead us through a time of upheaval. But what do you do when there's no leader? When everyone is dealing with their own emotions? The answer is simple but not necessarily easy, you become the leader. You are the leader of your job, your life, your emotions.

I've studied with and been mentored by some of the biggest names in self development and spirituality. In this podcast, I share some of what I've learned (and continue to learn).

Listen as Charlie and I discuss the cyclical nature of change and why you may be feeling the way you do. We also provide concrete steps you can start taking today to help you (and us) navigate through this chaotic time in our history.

How To Protect Your Most Precious Asset
Charlie and I were excited to speak with returning guest, Megan McNealy, the author of Reinvent the Wheel: How Top Leaders Leverage Well-Being for Success. Megan has reached back to some of the leaders she interviewed for her book to ask what they were doing to stay well during this turbulent time.

Our greatest take away was the concept that one CEO shared, "It's important to protect the asset". He was not discussing money, or possessions but his body.

No one on this planet has ever experienced a change of this magnitude and it's more important now than ever to keep our body, mind and spirit in top shape.

Listen to the high energy and fun conversation we had with Megan and learn ways to ensure you keep your most precious asset in top condition while you're staying inside. No trainer, guru or personal chef needed. All you need is you!

Why Bother With Self Development?
Think about the number of people's lives you've directly or indirectly touched on any given day:

Your family and friends

People on the road

People at the coffee shop or store

People at work

Just to name a few

Now think about the impression you left on them. Did you leave them with a smile, a frown or neutral (what I like to call at least "do no harm"). We do have the power to affect people's lives on any given day. And the way we interact with our family sets the stage for how they will interact out in the world.

But when you think of personal development work do you feel it's self indulgent or selfish? Or maybe you think it's worthwhile but don't know where to start?

Listen as Charlie and I discuss personal development, why it's important and what tangible, simple steps you can take today to make a positive difference.

Protect Yourself from the Sociopaths, Psychopaths, and Sexopaths in Your Life
You Know a Sociopath, Psychopath, or Sexopath. With at least 1 in 25 people falling on The Sociopath Spectrum, most of us interact with one every day and don’t even know it! Their minds are wired differently without a conscience or the ability to feel empathy, guilt, fear, or worry. Though they look like you and me—they see the world as a game, and we are their pawns to manipulate for their personal benefit.

Our guest, Nicole Kelly, M.D., is a board-certified physician in Nashville, TN who was victimized by a sociopathic sex addict or sexopath who embezzled over $700,000 from her medical practice. Using her ability to explain complicated medical concepts, Dr. Kelly makes clear one of the most important truths of our time: Not everyone thinks like you do, and to assume otherwise is dangerous.

Practice What You Preach!
How many times have you gone to a meeting and no one says what everyone is thinking? We just lay low and try to stay under the radar.

We all do it! But it's time to practice what we preach! Leadership models always discuss authenticity and integrity as the cornerstones of good leadership. Yet the real communication tends to happen after important meetings i.e. the covert "meeting after the meeting" when people get together and discuss what the "real" issues are.

Today we discuss strategies for learning how to stay authentic, get your point across and still be a "team" player. It takes practice!

Remember, our companies need us now more than ever!!

The Leadership Scam!
The news is full of large organizations having to pay millions in fines for major violations. In 2016 alone Citigroup was fined $425 million for rate rigging violations; Wells Fargo was fined $185 million for opening fake accounts and fired 5,300 employees and the CEO has testified before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee; Volkswagen agreed to pay $14.7 BILLION for emissions cheating. The list goes on!

Yet we constantly hear about corporate leadership and look to these "leaders" for inspiration, yet somewhere along the way in many huge organizations "leadership" means bullying, huge salaries and zero accountability. Leadership training is not working and many organizations have become "too big to fail".

Listen as Charlie and Eva discuss what's been happening in the news and their thoughts on real leadership!

Challenging the Status Quo
Big changes call for reevaluating our core beliefs! We may not realize it, but much of our thinking and core values were determined by our environments. Where we grew up, who we hang out with, who we work with, all impact our thinking and belief system.

That's not a problem until we find ourselves in a position where things no longer feel right and we sense a change is long overdue. We can find ourselves in survival mode. Survival mode overrides everything. Our values, morals and judgment. We slowly begin to lose our integrity.

Listen as Charlie and Eva discuss the meaning of "status quo", what survival mode looks like and how we can identify outmoded beliefs, start breaking out of old patterns, learn to collaborate using shared leadership and make a real difference in the world!

Let's Get The Big Banks Back On Track. The 100-Day Plan
With everything that's going on in the country the big banks i.e. Citigroup, Wells Fargo, PNC (to name a few) are all slipping under the radar again. The problem is they are still accumulating fines. What good is a Risk and Compliance Department if they are ALWAYS out of compliance?

Why should you care? Because you're paying for it! ATM and checking fees are through the roof, the opportunities to speak with a live teller are dwindling which means so is personal touch while interest rates on money market accounts make your mattress look like a viable investment option.

Listen in as Charlie and Eva review Charlie's 100-plan to get the banks on track and see what you think. Remember every single one of us can make a difference!

Preparing Young Adults for the Real World
Jim Egan spent a lot of time working with young people and observing what makes them tick before he decided to put that experience to work for high school students and their parents with the release of The High School Graduates Owner’s Manual. The main take-away from the 18+ years working directly with young people was: the time to be aware of many of the topics in the book were before huge mistakes were made shortly after high school due to lack of supervision, combined with a lack of experience/knowledge, and peer pressure from similarly uninformed friends and influencers.

The idea for The High School Graduates Owner’s Manual came next. Jim knew a lot about the topic, mistakes that you make when you are young because you don’t know any better. Combine that with recognition that there were very few decent graduation gift options for High School Graduates, and The High School Graduates Owner’s Manual was born.

Designing a Better Workstation
The research is clear about the hazards of a sedentary lifestyle yet chairs and desks still dominate the workplace landscape. Phil Brady decided to do something about that.

Phil was one of the 86% of the American workforce working behind a computer screen. He went to the gym regularly, but his health still suffered resulting in emergency surgery. That was a wake up call to lead a more healthy and active lifestyle. He also needed to find a way to be less sedentary while working on the computer.

Author Carrie Herzner
Mother, Wife, Business owner and.....Published Author! How is it possible to accomplish all this? Meet this week's guest Carrie Herzner.

Her book, The Business of Beauty - Your Guide to Happiness and Success in the Salon Industry, was published in October 2014. Her memoir, Good Luck Bill, was released October 11th, 2015.

Writing Good Luck Bill was a journey Carrie never dreamed she would embark upon. Having decided twenty years ago to sever all ties to her birth father, it was only after her husband suggested her father’s genetics, and her inheritance of them despite his absence, played a role in failure of their marriage. She was, of course, intrigued by this theory. Through the process of reconnecting with her father Bill, Carrie learned not only is life much more complicated than nature vs nurture, but that our upbringing and the people who influence us from a tender age, can play a role in all of our relationships—personal, career-orientated, and most importantly, in the way we see ourselves and the world around us.

Scott Deming takes his thirty plus years of business ownership, board positions, working with small, independently owned companies as well as multi-national, publicly traded corporations, employee relationship expertise, customer experience savvy, and wraps it into the most comprehensive, easy to implement and energetic program you’ve ever seen.

Sex is Not For Sissies
Valda Boyd Ford is a woman on a mission. After having woman after woman ask about sexual health issues she realized that something had to be done and she was the one to do it. While talking to women’s group about living a great life filled with love and laughter, invariably someone would express a concern about being involved in a new relationship or complain about the thrill being gone from a long term relationship.

So many questions! So little time! So she developed a seminar series that combined the best clinical information, the ability to get everyone involved in the discussion in a safe place, and her inimitable style of telling it like it is with humor and grace.

Sex is Not for Sissies was born! It started out as a simple conversation with a woman who was frustrated about getting back into the dating scene and doing a lot of whining about the realities. Finally, Valda told her that sex wasn’t for the casual participant or the cowardly. Sex, she said, was not for sissies!
