Edward Torchy Smith

Edward TORCHY Smith was born with bright red hair in 1947. The nurse brought him to his mother and said here is your little torch. She immediately started to call him TORCHY. To this day he has relatives and friends that do not know his real first name. He was raised in a suburb of Cleveland, Shaker Heights, where he attended public school through 12th grade. His two children also attended the Shaker School system. Torchy headed the organization of all his High School Reunions where over 600 Baby Boomers were in his graduating class. He attended Butler University and Kent State. May 4th 1970 was his last day at Kent State where he witnessed the shootings by the national guard. At that time he had been living off campus with his wife, Peggy, who he first met at religious school in the second grade. Torchy was a graphic design student and had worked doing advertising layouts for a number of employers. He soon gravitated to sales in art supply products and sold to retailers and school systems. He realized that sitting at a drawing board was not his forte as others were making more money by selling on the road. His sales ability led to the clothing industry. His family in the 50's owned retail stores in the men and boys clothing industry. He became a manufactures representative and sold to large department stores as well as smaller retailers in Ohio. In the 80's he got off the road and gravitated to investing in real estate and at the same time started a ribbon business. The ribbon business became a unique niche industry with buyers world wide. The company had high speed machines that hot stamped designs for various industries. If you ever had a ribbon or a bow put on your dog from the groomer's shop then it was most likely manufactured by Torchy's business.

He sold his business in 2006 and went into semi retirement. His celebrity connections started way back even before his children entered the entertainment business. He always had an interest in seeking a way to combine his nostalgia obsession with communications through the internet. Torchy developed computer skills beyond others his age as the baby boomers are hard pressed to "lean new tricks". On the other hand, Torchy was pushed into being tech savoy. As a self starter in his ribbon business he learned and kept up with the computer age that was surging in the 90's . He was able to then combine those skills with his graphic design background. What resulted was his accomplishments in photo shopping, creating videos, and communications with celebrities from the past. Besides his time with golf... Edward Torchy Smith has spent his time with a passion developing his listeners associated with Baby Boomers Talk Radio. Oh yes....and he has three grandchildren who actually live five minutes away. That is a rare occurrence with the mobile world of today's families. Most of his friends are at the disadvantage of always traveling to see their grandchildren. He now lives in Solon Ohio with his wife Peggy who is a clinical counselor. They have a "get away" home in Tucson Arizona.
