Memoir of a Slightly Mad Mystic
Bookmark and Share
Lawrence Furman is the author of a fascinating book, Memoir of a Slightly Mad Mystic. It's the autobiography of a boy who began having out of body journeys when he was 9 years old. But the freedom and joy those flights provided came into stark contrast when he began sinking into serious mental illness. After being treated with drugs, electroshock, and enforced isolation, hallmarks of the 1960's mental health care system, his condition only worsened. A cure seemed out of the question, until he died -- three times. Memoir of a Slightly Mad Mystic tells the story of how he survived death, and how his three trans formative journeys restored his sanity, and his soul.

Lawrence Furman
Lawrence Furman returned from his journeys into the afterlife craving more experience in this one. His desire to fulfill the visions he'd gained in the spirit world began in the '60s in San Francisco. During a fifteen-year stint in a spiritual community, his exploration into healing modalities led him to become a deep-tissue bodyworker and counselor, as well as a male midwife. As an actor, director, and writer, Lawrence toured the country with several theater companies, and he's traveled the globe performing as a magician. In the fall of 1992, after a myriad of spirit beings came pouring through him while on retreat on the island of Kauai, Lawrence began channeling their multidimensional perspectives to the many people who attended his weekly groups. These days, he mentors teens, is busy writing another book, gives workshops, and is a sought-after speaker.
