Who is at Risk for Shingles

Dr. Pritish Tosh, an infectious diseases specialist at Mayo Clinic, will discuss shingles and who should get vaccinated. Mayo Clinic Radio: Shingles Risk Almost 1 out of every 3 people in the U.S. will develop shingles in their lifetime, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And the risk goes up with age. Shingles is the blistery rash that happens when the chickenpox virus is reactivated. While it isn't a life-threatening condition, shingles can be painful. Vaccines can reduce the risk of shingles, while early treatment can shorten a shingles infection and lessen the chance of complications.
