Sports and Torts: Hall of Famer Steve Largent

At the time of his retirement, Steve Largent held six major career pass receiving records – most receptions (819), most consecutive games with a reception (177), most yards on receptions (13,089), most touchdowns on receptions (100), most seasons with 50 or more receptions (10) and most seasons with 1,000 yards or more on receptions (8). All this by a receiver who the Houston Oilers thought was too small and slow to make it in the pros.

Dan Dierdorf
Dierdorf was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996. He was the 2008 recipient of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award, given annually by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, in recognizing “long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football.” Dierdorf joins Frank Gifford and John Madden as the only members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame to also have won the Rozelle Award. He currently teams with Greg Gumbel on the NFL ON CBS. The former NFL All-Pro tackle had been a play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports' NFL broadcasts in 1985 before switching to color analysis in 1986. He is a three-time Emmy Award nominee (1987, 1988, 1989) as Outstanding Sports Analyst. For nine years, Dierdorf was blow-by-blow announcer for ABC Sports' coverage of boxing. His extensive broadcasting experience also includes serving for 16 years as sportscaster for KMOX Radio in St. Louis in a variety of capacities. In 1984, he served as color analyst for KMOX Radio's coverage of the St. Louis Cardinals, announced NFL games for the CBS Radio Network and provided color commentary for radio broadcasts of the NHL's St. Louis Blues. Dierdorf also served as sports director for KMOV-TV St. Louis. During a 13-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals (1971-83), Dierdorf was named All-Pro six times, was selected as the NFL's top offensive lineman three times and was voted to the NFL Team of the Decade for the 1970s. He was a two-time All-Big Ten tackle at the University of Michigan, where he was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame and named to seven All-American teams as a senior. Dierdorf was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000. He also was inducted into the State of Missouri Hall of Fame. In 2001, he was inducted into the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. On October 16, 2006, Dierdorf was inducted into the Arizona Cardinals’ “Ring of Honor” during halftime of the Phoenix Cardinals-Chicago Bears Monday night game. That honor makes him one of only a few people in the NFL to be honored in two different teams’ “Ring of Honor” as he is recognized by the St. Louis Rams for the years he played in St. Louis with the Cardinals. Dierdorf has served for 24 years on the board of trustees of Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, which includes an emergency and trauma center named in his honor, and for 28 years on the board of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's St. Louis Chapter. In August 2005, Dierdorf was appointed by the Governor of Missouri, Matt Blunt, to be Chairman of the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission. In addition to promoting tourism, he is responsible for overseeing the operation of the St. Louis Convention Center and Edward Jones Dome, home of the St. Louis Rams. Dierdorf was born on June 29, 1949, in Canton, Ohio. He and his wife, Debbie, live in St. Louis and are the parents of four children.

Steve Largent
Although his fourteen seasons with the Seattle Seahawks did not result in any National Football League (NFL) championships, Steve Largent retired as the holder of NFL records in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Often underestimated by his opponents, who thought that Largent was too small and slow to be an offensive threat, the wide receiver eventually gained recognition as a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee. After retiring as a professional athlete in 1989, Largent returned to his native Oklahoma and opened an advertising agency while cultivating his contacts with the state's Republican Party leadership. In 1994 he won election to the U.S. Congress as the Representative of the First District of Oklahoma, a feat that made him one of just five former NFL players ever to have served in Congress. Reelected in 1996, 1998, and 2000, Largent resigned from office in late 2001 in order to enter Oklahoma's gubernatorial race in 2002. Although he held a wide lead in the polls throughout most of the race, Largent lost the election and returned to the porivate sector. Largent became President & CEO of CTIA-The Wireless Association in 2003. CTIA is an international nonprofit membership organization founded in 1984, representing all sectors of wireless communications: cellular, personal communication services and enhanced specialized mobile radio.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank you all for making me your 2013 Loop Rock Girl! It's a great honor to represent Chicago's number one classic rock station and I'm more than ready to make sure we have a rockin' year together! I consider myself an All-American girl. Originally from a small town in northern Minnesota, I moved out of the state when I was 19 years old after attending college for two years at Saint Cloud State University and majoring in marketing to join the Marine Corps. While in, I spent time in Camp Lejuene North Carolina, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, and Rock Island Arensal in Rock Island, Illinois for 4th Maintenance Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group. I specialized in legal administration and accounting. After dedicating four years to the military I decided to get out on and pursue another passion of mine, modeling. I chose to live in Chicago because it has a large amount of modeling opportunities while still having a good Midwest feel but it didn't take me long to fall in love with the city as a whole. I have modeled for all sorts of things including fashion, swimwear, casual, print/editorial, glamour, lingerie, promotional, runway, body paint, beauty, and fitness. Some of my greatest work includes being a 2011 Maxim Hometown Hottie Finalist, finishing in the top 10! I recently had a 4 page spread in Maxim's annual Military Issue and was even on the bottom left corner of the cover! I also really enjoy being a ring girl for mixed martial arts events all around the country. I've been an avid MMA fan since joining the Marine Corps and having front row seats at an event is always a great time! Chicago has definitely grown on me. It is such a beautiful city! I love boating in the summer and bundling up and seeing a football game in the winter. I also love working out, trying out new restaurants, tailgating, and spending time with my friends and family when possible! I'm a sucker for a good beer and I'm a total fat kid at heart. You can catch me enjoying a Chicago-style hot dog at a Cubs game in Wrigleyville, I'll be the one ordering four hot dogs and saying they're for my friends when they're really not. ;) I can't wait to get to meet all you Loyal Loopers so be sure to check out all the events that we have going on and come say hello! Let's rock and roll Chicago!
