Public Health and Emotional Intelligence

This month, we welcome Adewale Troutman, MD, MPH, CPH as our featured guest.

Dr. Troutman is the Associate Dean for Health Equity and Community Engagement, in the College of Public Health at the University of South Floridal. He serves as Immediate Past President of the American Public Health Association (APHA).

His experience includes special consultancies with the World Health Organization in Thailand and Japan, health assessment missions in Angola, Jamaica and Zaire and training in India and Austria. Dr Troutman has had multiple publications including “What if We Were Equal”, co-authored with former Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary of Health, Dr David Satcher.

A nationally known speaker, Dr Troutman is an accomplished African Percussionist, a SCUBA diver, published poet and writer. He is married with 4 children.

Dr. Adewale Troutman Adewale Troutman is the director of public health leadership and practice at the University of South Florida, and currently teaches at the University of Louisville School of Public Health and the Morehouse School of Medicine. He has more than 40 years experience in public health practice, policy development, and direct patient care. Prior to joining the staff at USF, he served as director of the Department of Public Health and Wellness in Louisville, Kentucky. He also holds leadership roles on many national advisory boards and committees, including the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the health equity and social justice committee of the National Association of City and County Health Officers (NACCHO). He holds an MD from New Jersey Medical School, an MPH from Columbia University, and a master’s in black studies from the State University of New York at Albany. More About Dr. Troutman
